Packing and Perfection(ism)
I have been thinking about what to pack for our Alberta adventure for weeks–even months–but I still haven’t actually put anything into a suitcase. The surfaces in our house are covered with various travel essentials that I have recently purchased, but the buck stops there. Digitally, however, I’ve got a beautifully organized list divided into categories for myself, Viggo, and Gigi (Mike obviously packs himself and I’ve just learned to take no sweatpants at the cottage and running out of undies four days before we head home, in stride. True story: once he came to visit me in Toronto for the weekend–he was still living in St Catharines at the time–with nothing but a single pair of briefs and a book zipped into the pocket of his jacket!) You might remember how much I love lists and I am listed up for this one, boy! But why am I always all list and no action? Here it is, the final hour (almost), and I’ve got a lot of packing to do, yet here I lay, half asleep on the couch, trying to write something witty about packing instead of actually doing it. Part of the reason, I know, is that packing requires you to think about outfits ahead of time and I have always found that to be so restrictive. “So we’re heading to the cottage, but what if I’ll want a dramatic maxi one evening?” I also try to be SO organized (you have to be with kids), that the whole thing turns into such a process, which is even further exacerbated by my perfectionism. Not to mention the fact that this trip in particular, requires athletic layers, which are pretty foreign around here. Just to give you an idea of how unathletic/outdoors-y we are, while everyone else with kids stations themselves at the splash pad on weekends, we head to Bloor St. I’d rather fend off elbows at the semi-annual Zara sale than mosquitos, ya know? Anyway, excuse me while I salvage this (unproductive-in-the-packing-department) day by throwing the toiletries I think we’ll need into a baggie now.
I am NOT bringing this look to Banff but wore it for shopping on Queen Street the other day (while I should have been packing!)
