The Beauty Products That Are Getting Me Through Winter 2.0

My b

Because this weather is wreaking havoc on my nails, skin, hair–and psyche–I decided to write a little post about the beauty products that are seeing me through Winter 2.0. (FYI, I was sent some of these product–and many more–as press samples but am only reviewing the ones I love.)

Visage de Bebe Serum C

Vitamin C is amazing for its skin brightening, collagen-building, antioxidant-fighting properties, but  what I love most about this particular brand of vitamin C serum, is that you actually mix it yourself so that you can be sure that it’s effective until its expiration date about 30-45 days after mixing. (Vitamin C is volatile–susceptible to light and air–and it detiriorates quickly so when you buy pre-mixed serums on the shelf, chances are the vitamin C isn’t even active anymore). Even better, it’s a Canadian company. Order your Serum C here.

wet n’ wild photofocus Eyeshadow Primer

If you’ve never used an eyeshadow primer, try one. It will revolutionize your eye makeup. Colours go on more vividly and they stay on–without creasing. I was recently given a ton of products from wet n’ wild’s spring line and am truly impressed by the quality at such an affordable price point. The Eyeshadow Primer works just as well as the one I had been using previously but at a fraction of the price!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul

I hoard putty pink lipsticks and this one is the newest inductee to my collection. I turned to NYX after trying one of the bigger brand’s similar matte lip colours  and being very disappointed. But while the other was streaky and almost neon in colour when it went on, this shade is a perfect, natural-looking pink that wears really well. It’s comfortable. Can a lip colour be comfortable? This one is!

Joe Fresh Foundation

I don’t typically wear foundation and never have, but have felt like I need a bit of  something extra lately–probably because my almost-ten-month-old is waking me up all night, every night and it shows! I had read a good review of the Joe Fresh illuminating primer and thought the foundation was worth a try. Thank goodness for the cosmetician at Shoppers because she saw me with the lighter shade in-hand and said, “I hope that`s not the shade you’re getting! It’s too light for you.” I went one shade darker and she was right. I really love the light coverage this foundation gives me and it works perfectly for evening out my skin, which is what I wanted!

Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Cream

I usually get dry skin in the winter and this year I did too–everywhere BUT my face! I credit this moisturizer used in combination with the Visage de Bebe Serum C with keeping my face soft and supple even during this erratic winter. I was a bit hesitant to put something with “oil” in the actual name on my face but this stuff is amazing and the texture feels so good going on. And to be honest, I have never tried a product from The Body Shop that I didn’t like.

Refresh Botanicals Foaming Facial Cleanser

I’m not a stickler for all natural products–I appreciate them and love when I find a product with natural ingredients that works just as well as my regular product–but I’ve been dissapointed in the past. I really like this cleanser from Refresh Botanicals though. I have the lineup and while I like the toner and the BB cream, the cleanser is the one product that I have adopted into my daily routine! It’s fresh-feeling, fragrance-free, it only takes a small amount for a lot of foamy suds, and it does the job effectively.

H&M Lipstick and Body Mist

If you know me, you likely know about my love of H&M Beauty! I have loved every product that I have tried. Among my favourites are their lipsticks, which glide on so smoothly and then stay on. I’m majorly into their nude shades like Powder Puff (pictured), for Spring. And while I was shopping for the perfect nude shade, I kept smelling the most intoxicating scent and finally followed my nose (literally), to this Cashmere Haze Body Mist. It’s VERY affordable and provides a nice, light layer of scent that is perfect for the summer months.

Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique

You know how sometimes you turn around and your hair seems like it has grown over night? That happened to me recently. I typically visit my hairdresser once every six months for a cut and this last time before I went I felt like my hair had grown a lot longer than it had in between previous visits. I thought about what I had been doing differently and the only thing was that I had been using a selection of Kerastase products that I had received at a media event, including this heat protector before blow drying and flat ironing my hair. I had also received a Fusio Dose treatment three months prior and I swear, the combination of products and in-salon treatment made a HUGE difference. Kerastase, I’m sold on your transformative powers!
