The End is in Sight

Had I bought a lot of maternity clothes, I’d be kicking myself right now. With only eight weeks to go until my scheduled c-section on June 18, the end is in sight–and my sights are set on everything non-maternity. There’s a shift that takes place (both the first time and now, again), whereby my excitement at clothing my pregnant body downshifts and all I can think about is getting myself back into regular clothes (or I should say regular styles because I have only purchased two maternity garments this time around!) That’s not to say I don’t enjoy being pregnant–oddly enough I actually feel more confident with my pregnant body because I’m not worrying about leftover paunch from my first babe, or love handles, or anything that comes with the territory of being an average weight girl the rest of the time. But alas, even the boost of confidence isn’t enough to make me want to cart this big baby belly around one more day than I have to (did I mention that I already am carting it around one more day than I have to because my husband has tickets to Rush’s 40th anniversary tour?) Insert trophy emoji here.

Anyhoo I’ve been preaching about the virtues of not buying maternity clothes this time around and I’m so glad I’ve been able to stick to my resolution. Stretchy midi dresses, flowy tops and low-rise boyfriend jeans (in my regular size!) have been my saving grace and now I can look forward to wearing everything post-pregnancy as well. One of my more recent purchases is this relaxed t-shirt dress from Gap. It works perfectly for me now and I can’t wait to let the baggy proportions hang in all their oversize glory once my baby girl has arrived. Have I mentioned that I’m a sucker for “sacs” as my husband likes to call them? Interesting, oversize silhouettes are my bag. Plus how great will it be to have my “maternity” wardrobe to wear during that post-partum transitional phase when you feel like crap having to wear maternity because it’s still the only stuff that fits you? Since t’is the season to start exposing a little leg, I’ve linked to a few of the dresses that I have my eye on for their ability to work now and later–and because they are just so cute!

  1. I have that Gap dress in my basket right now in gray! I love it and it will hide my tummy (yuck) and show off my legs (less yuck)
