Double Duty Denim
In dreaming up new ways to wear my standby jean jacket, I remembered a picture I had seen of Jenna Lyons, artistic genius behind J. Crew (for anyone who has been living under a rock) and queen of cool, casual elegance. I love every single one of Lyons’ ensembles and her “pair a heel with it” approach to fashion, which has cemented the style star’s cult status. Her ability to elevate even the most casual pieces (think oversize boyfriend jeans), with the addition of a statement shoe/tailored piece/glam details has become her signature and it is this mix which has resonated so profoundly with women. Personally I normally eschew formal details or tailoring of any kind in favour of flowy, funky, and ripped, but Lyons’ high-low mix has shown me the way. Here are some of my favourite casual-chic looks, plus the one that inspired this outfit post:
My take on a Lyons mix is this look I pulled together on the weekend with cropped, tailored pants, a white tee, and my jean jacket worn as a layer under my trench–and of course a pair of sleek stilettos.
