New Look, New Outlook
I don’t know if you noticed, but my amazing husband has been busy updating my site between playing with Viggo and doing his own work in the evenings. And I’m so grateful. I like the redesign and beyond that, the fresh look has inspired me to adjust my outlook as well. First up, I’m trying NOT to let this incredibly cold (read way too cold to be outside with a tot), weather we’ve been having, get me down. Two plus years ago, when it was just Mike and I, the extreme cold would have made very little difference to our lives, if any. But now that I’m home with Viggo, not being able to spend time outdoors has had a huge impact on our days. It has however, forced me to be creative and I keep reminding myself that in two years when Viggo is in school all day, I’ll probably long for the days when it was just him and I and the world (no matter how cold), was our oyster.
I also want to take a step back and think about why I started the blog in the first place and where I want it to go. I love clothes and foremost, I LOVE scouting the city for deals. Putting my great finds together into outfits was (is) my creative outlet and I obviously love writing Style Forage, but it’s also hard to manage to have new stuff all the time on our meagre one-half-of-us-is-staying-at-home-with-our-kid budget. There’s a lot of pressure (completely brought on by myself because I want my blog to develop), to always be acquiring new stuff, which is stressful and unrealistic for us right now, so I have found that lately, it prevents me from having the same sort of fun that I used to have with clothes. Plus, I feel like I’m not really offering an editorial component, which is also my bag: shopping and style advice, tips, tricks–it’s what I do. Anyway I have recommitted to having fun with fashion and plan to make some changes to the blog in the coming months. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, this is what I wore for a weekend outing to troll the Zara sale for any hidden gems I might have missed the first (several) times I visited. Toronto was graced with yet another snowstorm on Friday night/Saturday so my look required practicality–patterned skinnies (that I could easily tuck into riding boots), denim and terry layers on top, and a heavy wool coat. The conditions weren’t the best for taking blog photos but I figured, if you can’t lick ’em, join ’em. Right?
