Behind the scenes at the Costa Blanca Spring/Summer '14 campaign shoot
I was invited to visit the Costa Blanca SS ’14 shoot for a little peek behind the scenes–on a particularly cold day last week. While I loved flipping through the racks of goodies Costa Blanca has in store for spring, it was also torture because winter hasn’t technically even begun! Anyway here are a couple of the pieces that really stood out to me:
I loved the bold floral and the loose cut of these pants that could easily be dressed up (with a crop and lots of jewellery) or down (with a denim shirt), depending on your mood.
Another favourite was this black and white graphic jumpsuit. I LOVE one piece dressing in the summer!
I had a chance to talk to head buyer for Costa Blanca, Elvie Capano, about the brand’s direction for spring and she emphasized that the crop top + high waist pant trend is still huge. Now I have enjoyed a good crop top or two in my life–I was even given a warning one day in high school when the vice principal at the new school I was attending came over to me at lunch and pointed out that when I sat down my (barely) crop top revealed an inch of my bare back! “I don’t know how things were at XX”, he said, but we definitely don’t dress like that here at XX.” What!? Anyway nearly seventeen years separates me from my 18 year old (rule-breaking) self and I can’t/don’t want to/would never subject my friends and loved ones to my post c-section body in a crop top now. Or would I?
“It’s all about making the crop work for you”, explained Elvie. “A lot of our customers will layer our sequin crop for instance, over a longer shirt.” Maybe. The sparkly top (pictured on hanger), was my most favourite piece from the spring collection because it stood out in a sea of pretty (but typical) brights and I LOVE the idea of sequins all year long.
